This came to me during a distance reiki session by the amazing Bonnie from Soul Lab Reiki (soullabreiki.godaddysites.com) 💙
I often use gratitude as a way to not feel joy or happiness.
I dismiss the warm feelings with a, "thank you," to my guides, hoping to create more happiness while simultaneously feeling that this "level" of happiness is not good enough: It is not joy and it is fleeting.
In that way, I am not present in my happiness. Perhaps that's what creates joy: presence.
Happiness + Presence = Joy
It's not about a hierarchy, as I have previous thought, it's a matter of truly being IN the happiness. As you are IN it and feel it, it grows and envelopes you. When you are present with happiness, all else melts away, as it does when you are present with any one thing.
I will still be grateful and express my gratitude for my happiness and joy, AND I will be sure to treasure the moments, holding them even closer to my heart. 🤗
